Toner Streaks, Spots and Repeating Marks
Laser defects become easier to describe when you record their direction, spacing and whether they repeat. Use that evidence with your model's service or support information rather than replacing the first consumable you suspect.
Print a Page With Coverage and Fine Detail
Use the laser test page. Circle the first visible defect and measure whether the same mark appears again lower on the sheet. Also note whether it appears in black only or one color on a color laser.

Repeating Marks
A regular interval suggests a rotating component may be reproducing the defect. The interval alone should not be used to name a part unless the printer's model-specific documentation provides that mapping.
Vertical Streaks
Long streaks can involve toner supply/distribution, imaging or contamination. Reseating a user-replaceable cartridge may be a reasonable first check when the manufacturer permits it, but avoid touching imaging surfaces.
Gray Background or Toner Scatter
Check paper/media setting, environment and consumable condition. Wrong media settings can affect transfer and fusing. Persistent backgrounding or scatter deserves model-specific support rather than a generic “replace toner” conclusion.
Ghosting or Toner That Rubs Off
These symptoms can involve fusing, media settings or other print-system conditions. Stop using the printer if toner is not being fixed to the paper normally and consult the model guidance, especially if the printer reports a service error.
